Which book-I-own-but-haven't-read-yet should I read next? (Poll below cut.)
Some explanation/backstory: *Feel free to skip below the cut to jump right to the poll if you don't want to read all of this.
The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright - I watched the movie as a kid, and it basically traumatized me. I just found out it was a book and couldn't resist getting it. Maybe reading it would be...therapuetic?
The Crucible by Arthur Miller - My only knowledge of this classic play is from another book I once read that briefly and vaguely made mention of it. I've wanted to know more about it ever since.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis - I technically read this as a child, but I don't really remember that. I know the story by heart from the movie and I've wanted to read it basically my entire life. (I've already read The Magician's Nephew, as I opted to read the series in story order.)
Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen - I've read several of Sarah Dessen's books already, but haven't yet gotten to this one.
The Wish List by Eoin Colfer - I started this one years ago, but thought all of the supernatural/religious stuff was sort of weird and quit it. Since that time, however, I've watched the TV series Supernatural in its entirety, so this book no longer seems daunting, like, at all.
Type Talk by Otto Kroeger and Janet M. Thuesen - I enjoy all things MBTI. I already know a lot about it, but I never get tired of reading more and I've been meaning to borrow my dad's copy of this and give it a read.
Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis - I don't know anyone who's ever read this, but I got it for free a while back. To be honest, I don't even remember what the summary said about it...
The Tale of Despereaux by Katie DiCamillo - This book just sounded so cute. I love reading children's books occasionally and picking out which ones I'd like to read to mine and my sweetheart's currently nonexistent children in the future.
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien - For reasons I no longer fully understand, I adored The Secret of NIMH movie as a child. I had no idea it was based on a book (although I'm not surprised), and when I found out I sort of blindly grabbed it on some sort of childhood nostalgia high.

rather than who you would like to see on the next taskmaster series, who do you think will be on it? like just your predictions or any inklings you may have!
anon if you're still around then you'll know i really took my time with this hahaha so sorry! i hope anyone reading this takes it as just a bit of fun and nbd, who knows who we'll get or who alex & the network have in mind! i'm answering thoughtfully (bc i always feel guilty not to 😩 so sorry this is long lol) but it's really just fun!!
i will say, of the more recent-ish series, i did get a few right!!! krishnan guru-murthy, nicola coughlan, alan davies, judi love, sue perkins, john robins, and joanne mcnally were people i just knew would eventually be on if the show could get their schedules right, and i was also certain sarah millican and dara ó briain would be asked — though not necessarily that they'd actually agree. when you have a level of seniority and esteem, the "it's such a great opportunity" aspect of the show isn't such a draw 😅 for some reason i feel SO PROUD about guessing nicola! i was just WAITING and wish sooooo much she had done a full series 😭😭😭 (how fun would saoirse-monica jackson be too!)
anyways, as for people who haven't been on yet — and this isn't to say i want them all to be, just that i think it's likeliest they have been asked or will be asked; i talked about who i want to see a little while ago here — it's important to consider the casting 'roles' the network has in mind when working with the producers to form a series, so i will keep that in mind too!
established comedian, typically a straight white man over 40: bill bailey, vic reeves, harry hill, geoff norcott, kevin bridges, adam buxton, ade edmondson, paul whitehouse (tommy tiernan? god i feel bad for not saying ed byrne but why do i feel like he's not gonna make it in the next few series? i'm on the fence with nick helm — unless he's friends with alex, then his chances go up significantly imo — and tom allen for some reason, and i feel like john bishop is almost too much of an ask?)
fresh talent comedian, typically a man under 40: rhys james, huge davies, ahir shah, darren harriott would be my top guesses but tbh any of the semi-recent edinburgh comedy award finalists are good bets as a majority of the winners from the last ~10 years have been on the series + throwing out tom rosenthal (i know he's not fresh fresh and also mostly an actor)...and, like, jazz emu?...just because if taskmaster know how much its audience adores weird little white twinks then they'll cast them
female or non-binary comedian: 100% sarah keyworth + harriet kemsley, maisie adam, jess fostekew, suzi ruffell. i've shifted away from betting on cariad lloyd and catherine bohart for some reason... (joanne was my no.1 lady bet for the last like 4 series hahaha)
non-comedian: this is very, very hard to predict because between comedy actors, non-comedy actors, tv presenters, news people, reality & social media stars... the potential predictions are just so endless! logically, the most likely is an established actor with a lot of comedy connections (think sally phillips, lolly adefope, liza tarbuck, sian gibson, daisy may cooper, susan wokoma; this category is where tm gets quite a few of its female contestants): matt holness, kevin eldon, amanda abbington, tom davis, sharon horgan, kathy burke, georgia tennant (also friends w alex?), su pollard, tom basden, apparently anyone from the cast of ghosts, and so on and so on and so on... + i'll also throw out maggie aderin-pocock as a serious contender + i really feel like one of the spice girls will be on new years treat
friend of alex: john robins was the prediction for the past few series, so just worth keeping in mind other people in this circle include elis james, matthew crosby, tom neenan, and so on
freebie answers because alex/greg have mentioned them before: jack dee, lorraine kelly, joanna lumley (i want jennifer saunders SO BAD give us an epic series w both ade and jen pleaseeee tm gods!!!!)
complete wild card bets that are either my instincts kicking in or my bias taking over: limmy, adam buxton, paddy mcguinness, diane morgan, daniel sloss, joel dommett, jess hynes, spencer jones??, alasdair beckett-king or josh pugh + if suzy izzard wasn't doing a big nyc show i'd say that's a good guess if only bc you know greg & alex grew up big fans
did i mention too many people?? if i had to put my money behind a single person it would be either ahir shah or sarah keyworth
these are almost all of my fr big heavy hitters when it comes to placing bets! but there are of course so many people i didn't name who i could totally see on either a main series or the ny treat — so many people just make sense and that's the beauty of taskmaster!!

Adam Crosswhite (October 17, 1799 – January 23, 1878) was an enslaved man who fled slavery along the Underground Railroad and settled in Marshall, Michigan. In 1847, slavers from Kentucky came to Michigan to kidnap African Americans and return them to slavery in Kentucky. Citizens of the town surrounded their houses and prevented them from being abducted. They fled to Canada, and their former enslaver, Francis Giltner, filed a suit, Giltner vs. Gorham et al., against residents of Marshall. Giltner won the case and was compensated for the loss of the Crosswhite family. After the Civil War, he returned to Marshall, where he lived the rest of his life.
He was born into slavery in Bourbon County, Kentucky. His mother was an enslaved woman, and his father was his first enslaver. His father gave him to his paternal aunt, Miss Crosswhite when he was a boy. His aunt married Ned Stone, who sold him for $200 to a man with the Troutman surname. He was traded to Francis Giltner of Carroll County, Kentucky. He married Sarah (1819). He fathered seven children. When he learned that Giltner intended to sell his eldest child, they made plans to run away.
They traveled by skiff to Madison, Indiana, where they were met by conductors on the Underground Railroad. Traveling to Newport, Indiana, they were taken in and hidden by Quakers for several days because slave catchers were closing in on them. The family split up, with Sarah and two of their younger children traveling together and he pushed on to southern Michigan. They met up five weeks later and settled in Marshall, Michigan. They met up with some friends from Kentucky, and he was offered employment. He purchased a house on the edge of town on East Mansion Street. His fifth child was born free in Michigan.
He and his family lived in Chatham, Ontario, and North Buxton, which was the final destination for many former enslaved people where they would be free.
The Crosswhite affair received national attention, and pro-slavery factions called for a stricter fugitive law, which led to the enactment of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

S5e13 thoughts:
For an episode with Aunt Miranda I wanted to like this one more.
Sarah just randomly responds to calls with Rex now and no one questions it LOL. (Yes I realize it’s an establishing thing for it to be believable that she takes Rex in the two-parter.)
I will forever love Aunt Miranda. Even more so in her stylish break-in outfit.
I’m not forgiving the writers for naming a character Bruce Buxton several seasons after one named Bruce Luxton.
The “it’s your time” sign at the entrance to the retirement community is simultaneously welcoming and ominous…
Same actor/different character: Apparently Sam’s dad from Nightmare on Water Street has been reincarnated as Aunt Miranda’s friend.
Ahhhh more Joe and Vanessa. Sigh. I actually like their B plot more than the main plot in this episode.
I would like to read Aunt Miranda’s books.
I forgot to note the specific episode in which Charlie’s hair goes flat, but it’s bothering me in this one. Bring back Feral Charlie’s mussed look.
Aunt Miranda’s perceptiveness re: Charlie’s house. Hey remember Charlie’s house?
Charlie having a dining table that appears out of nowhere…sure why not.
Waiter Jesse is entertaining.
Can Joe and Vanessa please just bang already? You could cut that sexual tension with a knife’s
Karma and Sarah with the stabbing reenactment…yes, I side-ship it.
I swore I recognized the actor who played Kevin from Letterkenny, but recently realized he was actually in Shoresy. Close enough.
Gotta love a low-speed “high speed chase.”
Aunt Miranda knows about Charlie and Sarah because of course she knows when her “favourite nephew” is in love.
(Jack Hudson would like a word.)

but if you can let me in a little bit,
i’ll share the pain that you’re not showing.
it doesn’t mean you’re not strong
to need someone to lean on,
but maybe i can make it a little bit better.
i don’t have an answer,
oh i don’t have a cure,
but maybe we can make it a little bit better.

I’m actually not sure if it was Josh Kear or Chris Tompkins. It doesn’t matter, they were both there and sitting next to each other. They frequently write together, including “before he cheats” and “drunk on a plane”. Kear also wrote neon light.
The person who dmed us about it being Chris took a guess at Heaven Sweet Home being the song title. I looked that up on the songwriters index, and sure enough, Chris Tompkins wrote a song called Heaven Sweet Home. I think this is the song. Co-writers are Jake Rose and Sarah Buxton.
